Ryan Blum is a husband and father first and foremost. He is a strategic, innovative, and agile problem solver with a unique combination of business acumen and legal expertise based on comprehensive leadership positions in corporate law, insurance services, entrepreneurial ventures, and private equity-backed enterprises. Ryan is recognized as a trusted advisor to Boards of Directors, executive management teams, and active investors.

 

He is known for his innate curiosity, resourceful perseverance, creative problem-solving approaches, and impeccable follow-through to achieve positive results in high-growth, fast-paced, deadline-driven organizations.  Ryan creates a culture prioritizing collaboration, compassion, integrity, curiosity, transparency, and high engagement. He prides himself on supporting, developing, and inspiring teams to deliver goals. As an optimist who approaches situations with positive intent, he appreciates Thomas Jefferson’s quote, “Take things by the smooth handle.” 

 

During the height of the global pandemic, he founded Blum Group, LLC, a boutique advisory firm providing general counsel and business advisory services utilizing a competitive approach incorporating business strategy, legal expertise, and risk management. As Principal, he focuses on serving emerging and middle-market companies and private family offices. Since 2023, he has served on the Leadership Team overseeing a diversified family of private companies. Beforehand, he served on the Leadership Team and as General Counsel responsible for all legal, risk, and compliance matters at a local investment firm. Beforehand, he spent several years in professional services organizations, including Lockton and Aon, where he led practices, delivered significant organic growth, and advised on mergers and acquisitions. Beforehand, he spent more than four years as Senior Counsel and Director at Scottrade, where he initiated cost savings solutions, oversaw compliance, established corporate best practices, and helped design and launch Scottrade Bank. He started his legal career as an in-house attorney at HOK, where he advised teams on international legal and risk mitigation matters.

 

As a tenacious and continuous learner, Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in International Business from Northwest Missouri State University and his JD and MBA from Saint Louis University at night while working full time. He is admitted to the Missouri Bar and a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel and Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. He is a certified Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist and is licensed in Property & Casualty and Life & Health. Engaged in the community, Ryan volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House, served as an Advisor to Promise Community and was involved in the Learning Disability Association for many years. Outside of work, he enjoys practicing guitar, reading, playing golf, and spending quality time with his wife and their three daughters.
